letters to the future

things i would definitely do differently in 2019 – a lookback

Maybe I’ve had enough of having to-do lists every year, crossing some out but then after the year passed I ended up getting more undone items than those I’ve crossed out and then rewriting it again for another year and another year and another one until yep – I’ve stopped having those lists two years ago.

But that actually, did not do me any good than having half-done checklists – they’re both the same so yeah – I figured I have got to do a different method.

So here I am:

  • read one book a month – and write about it. I need to level up on my vocabularies again and I need to liven up this site. πŸ˜‰
  • wake up and exercise – because we have to keep our body healthy
  • watch a series/drama/film – and still write about it. We (talking to myself) need practice!
  • spend less time on instagram and work on my other interests as follows:
  • skincare every day AND night because we’re spending on those and you don’t want to waste
  • learn how to help environment – eco-friendly products, plant? plant! plant a sunflower!
  • learn a new language (korean or japanese anyone?)

Maybe I should categorise this list. Hmmm

I wrote this last year and now here we are in 2020 and I kind of wanted to self-check whether I accomplished some of it so here goes:

  • read one book a month – and write about it. I need to level up on my vocabularies again and I need to liven up this site. πŸ˜‰
Failed on this one. I still haven’t overcome my reading slump. Hopefully in 2020? However I read some of inspirational books like The Crossroads of Should and Must and Am I There Yet? Both written by artists whom I followed and both sent me into this crying frenzy but more so about Crossroads. But I have not written anything about it. Too personal I guess.
  • wake up and exercise – because we have to keep our body healthy
I started to do some jogging in place exercise around February but it didn’t last long. However, around August I started to do yoga and then spent everyday – 20 to 40 minutes – in doing it. Until December! I didn’t know I could last that long – though I haven’t done so in the last week of December because of the holidays. But this is cheers because I was able to accomplish this one. It keeps my physical and mental health healthy – what can I say, I think I’ll still continue on this for the rest of my life. Until I found a more fulfilling exercise.
  • watch a series/drama/film – and still write about it. We (talking to myself) need practice!
I guess I did this on the first half of the year but I wasn’t able to continue the momentum or maybe because I just didn’t watch a lot this year. At one point I just dived into anything Japanese to learn some nihongo phrases. I think I won’t push further about this – I will just write what I love and not force myself.
  • spend less time on instagram and work on my other interests as follows:
Haha. I only have 24 posts in my personal account in IG for the past 365 days so I think I’ve accomplished this one. Also, I felt happy and blessed to have known the journaling community through, of course, following rainbowholic’s account. There was a time that I completely did not use IG for more than a month and it made me feel better. So yes – this one is accomplished and I will still continue to do this.
  • skincare every day AND night because we’re spending on those and you don’t want to waste
This one might be average because at one point I will be very dedicated to my skincare and then another minute I will just go off to sleep because I’m super tired. This is is still me taking care of myself so this will still be continued.
  • learn how to help environment – eco-friendly products, plant? plant! plant a sunflower!
I indeed planted a lot this year and they one by one died. 😦 But thankfully by December my office friend gave me baby cacti and they were still alive by now. I’ll take it slow but I will still plant this year. I wanted to prove that I can make them alive. πŸ˜‰ This is a personal challenge.
  • learn a new language (korean or japanese anyone?)
This one I achieved bigtime! I started to learn last April through Duolingo app and still continued on December and who knew I finally enrolled in a formal Nihongo class starting this January.

That’s it! My 2019 hits and misses judging by what I intended to do at the beginning of 2019. Granted, there are other accomplishments I was able to achieve that wasn’t included in here because maybe I made that goal in the middle of the year. All in all it wasn’t a total fluke but I still have a lot of rooms for improvement. So a lot of things happened in 2019 and I am so ready to wave it goodbye. 2020 will be the year I will finally get back up. Finally. No excuses now.
